If you’re the sort of person who loves the strategy in boxing just as much as the fun of it, Fight Night Round 4 (see GameSpot review) might actually give you a boxing game that you’ll enjoy. With one match options, a fun and varied career mode, and a pretty entertaining and responsive online multiplayer option, this game has a lot to offer.

For the people who just like to pick two fighters and go at it, the game controls are sensitive and the response to any given move can have a huge number of potential outcomes. The visuals are impressive and the sounds are even more so. You can even make yourself a character by uploading a few pictures and spending some time tweaking their appearance on the game interface.

The legacy mode offers even more variety, combining matches that you choose and set with training, working your way up the stats, and securing your title once you have it. Complete with strategic ways to spend points you earn during the fights and interesting (if a little difficult) minigames that help build your character’s stats, it’s easy to see why trying to become a boxing legend can be so addictive.

For even more fun, try the online gameplay, which has an Online World Championship mode, ranking you against every other player with a profile in the online game. Here, your strategy can really shine while you enjoy the solidly responsive controls and consistently impressive sound effects. In the event that you get matched with someone who’s really willing to put some effort and thought into play rather than just pummeling you mindlessly and leaving prematurely if they lose, this game can shine.

Leave us a comment below and tell us which feature you liked the best about Fight Night Round 4.

Oh, it has the legends of Wrestlemania fame, but the game is a little lacking. It’s not ‘ET the Game’ lacking, but it could’ve been a lot better. Oh, there are some things that will attract wrestling fans, including a pretty impressive roster of classic Wrestlemania wrestlers and old video footage, but the game gets a little boring. Not ET the Game boring, but still boring after a while, which is strange for a fighting/wrestling game.

There is one plus side to the gameplay being so simplistic – pretty much anyone can pick up a controller and play. (Yes, even your grandma who is crazy about the Wii.) For seasoned game players, though, this is going to be a disappointment – unless you really, really like Wrestlemania. (It’s real! Wrestling is real!)

The character models in Legends of Wrestlemania are a little fake, though. This is really pointed out when you go from looking at a video clip of the real wrestler in action then see his cartoon-like character in the Legends of Wrestlemania game. It is kinda catchy, though, so see cartoon versions of your favorite wrestlers of yore. You may get bored, though, no matter how well the characters move.

There are a lot of different modes in the game, and it’s kind of interesting to be able to change the conditions of matches that really happened, but the boring will hit you eventually with this game. It might be after your first match or after your 100th match, but eventually you’ll feel ‘full’ of the game. Still, though, if you’re a Wrestlemania fan, it’s a great game.

If you watched wrestling in the 1980s and 1990s, leave a comment below – either about Legends of Wrestmania the game or your own Wrestlemania memories. Until next time, feel the Hulk-a-mania!

Deadly Creatures for the Nintendo Wii (see GAMESPOT Review or IGN Review or the Offical Deadly Creatures website) is a bit creepy, but if you like the getting creeped out by weird and strange creatures, this game might just be the ticket for you. In the game, you take the form of either a tarantula or a scorpion, two creatures you usually don’t get to play in a videogame.

The only two humans in the game are voiced by Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Hopper. (Heh. That should be enough to buy the game by itself, eh?) They’re more of background noise, though, for the different places deep in a mine where you’ll do battle with “deadly creatures” as a deadly creature.

Unlike a lot of other Wii games, Deadly Creatures is not a port from another system. It was built with the Nintendo Wii in mind. What makes it so special, though, is that it takes a new approach instead of being just another fighting game or just another shooting game. On the other hand, it’s not too far out there of an idea – playing a spider or scorpion that is.

Not all the game is spent fighting, though. There are also a lot of opportunities to show off your skills at getting around as a spider or scorpion – might be a little trickier than you think at first. Overall, it’s the individuality and uniqueness of this game that’s gonna make it a hit. Every once in a while, a videogame comes along that breaks all the rules and goes off in some new direction. This is one of those games. Hopefully there aren’t a lot of copycat games thrown out, but other game designers could learn something from the concept of this game.

If you’ve played Deadly Creatures for the Nintendo Wii, leave a comment below!

Afro Samurai for the PS3 and Xbox 360 (see GAMESPOT Review) is rather gory, but if you’re into that type of thing, it’s a good amount of gory. The art work in this game is pretty incredible, evoking a style and mood when you play the game. And the combat is fast and furious and … gory. The game does have its drawbacks (poor pacing in some parts and a wonky camera you can’t customize), but overall if you’re into violent action and fighting games, you’re going to definitely want to check this one out. It’s an artistic take on hack-n-slash that will have you drooling at the visuals.

And the music. The game uses a lot of hip-hop and eastern influenced tunes to put you into the mood of Afro Samurai’s world. If you didn’t know, the game is based on an Anime series. (If you don’t know what Anime is, well, go Google it…)

Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with the franchise. There’s not a lot to know other that you have an Afro, smoke cigarettes, and are out looking to avenge the death of your father. You’ll meet plenty of crazy characters from the Afro Samurai series along the way, getting to dismember and kill them in a variety of ways.

If you’re not into blood and guts and killing, this game is definitely not going to be for you. If, on the other hand, you’re somehow attracted to that type of thing (like Kill Bill the movie), you’re gonna love this game. It has a lot of flaws, but if it sells well, it may lead to other games in a series that continually gets better.

If you’ve played Afro Samurai for the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment below.

Until next time, keep gaming.

(As Super Smash Bros. came out around nine years ago, I’d hope you know about it now.) If you haven’t heard about it and you own a Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl (GameSpot Review) continues the Nintendo tradition of pitting game characters against each other in a single game.

The latest incarnation for the Nintendo Wii offers online multiplayer action, the ability to trade screengrabs and custom levels, and even more characters to choose from (while still maintaining balance and playability.)

While the game is best played with a bunch of friends, Super Smash Bros. Brawl does offer a single-player game that’s kinda cool.

The real fun with this game comes in picking your favorite Nintendo character and battling 2D style with friends or family or even strangers you may never have met except for online.

Some of the 35 characters (14 are hidden and need to be unlocked) include Meta Knight from Kirby, Fox McCloud from Star Fox, Pikachu from Pokémon, and more. This is the biggest Super Smash Bros. Brawl yet.

If you’re worried about being able to control your favorite character with the new Wii controller, don’t be. The game can be played with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, the Wii Remote, the classic controller, or the GameCube Controller, making it easy to bring your character to life and brawl with the best of them.

Another great site to check out is the Super Smash Bros. Brawl DOJO. IGN also has a good Super Smash Bros. Brawl write-up, including reviews of the game, tips for the game, screenshots, walkthroughs, cheats and a whole lot more.

If you’ve ever wondered if Mario could take on Metroid and win, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the game for you – it’ll let you pit your favorite Nintendo characters against each other.

If you like the game, leave a comment below and let us know your favorite Nintendo character match-ups.
