As you might imagine, there are a lot of people who are anxiously awaiting the release of this game. If you’re old enough, you might remember that Castle Wolfenstein was one of the early hit games for the PC that helped define the First Person Shooter (FPS) genre of video games.

“Our goal is to make exciting, fun and accessible games that translate to the masses,” said Ben Smedstad, creative director & co-owner, Endrant Studios Ltd.. “Our backgrounds and experience enable us to be more creative, more focused and deliver a higher quality game no matter what the platform.”

If you’re waiting for the game, you might look around for older versions of this classic to “get in the mood” and be “blown away” when you finally see the latest 2009 Wolfenstein. If you’re a fan of FPS video games, there are good chances you’re going to love this game. You’re going to want to play it at least a few hours with a few different people to run it through the paces. Sometimes people are too quick to judge a new game. This is a shame and gives a lot of bad publicity to a potentially very good video game.

Let’s not let this be the case with Wolfenstein. If the previews are to be believes, we’re looking at a very fresh take on the FPS video game, something that’s a good thing.

Once the game does come out, you’re invited back here to Video Game Freaks for a closer look and to leave your thoughts on the video game. That’s right, we love to hear from our readers. Keep in touch!

Even if you’re not, this is a good FPS that takes place in outer space. Oh yeah, there are bad guy aliens to go through – quite a few of them in fact. The AI for the bad guys isn’t all there, and even the multi-player isn’t as fine tuned as it could be. All that said, if you like the bald man Vin Diesel and the Riddick franchise, you’re going to like this video game.

The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena contains a new full-length Chrons of Riddick campaign plus a high-def pixel-by-pixel remake of the original Escape from Butcher Bay. This is the first time Riddick has a multiplayer arena, with six online multiplayer combat modes including the unique Pitch Black mode. (Remember that movie anyone?) As mentioned, it kinda shows that it’s the first time the game has multi-player. At least it’s a step in the right direction.

Vin Diesel brings his vocal talent to the game, which is a plus for his fans. Beyond that, it just kinda makes your character tougher, you know?

The Chronicles of Riddick was released in 2004 by Universal Pictures and since then, it’s been branching out as a pretty interesting franchise. Oh, it’s no Star Wars (or Star Trek for that matter), but it’s not bad either. Hopefully they’ll keep coming out with new games. This one doesn’t suck too much, but it just feels like they could’ve done a little better.

That said, it’s still something you should check out if you’re into FPS. If you’ve played The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, we’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment below and let us know what you think.

Whatever you call it, though, this paintball game for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii is one that will have all paintball fans in awe. It’s been out a while now, but if you haven’t sat down to play it, you should at least give it a chance.

NPPL Championship Paintball 2009 is not going to be for everyone out there, but for some people it’s gonna hit the spot. It gives you a great sporty FPS feel without all the blood and guts typically associated with those types of games. (Some people like those, but they’re not for all types of people, which makes games like this welcome additions.)

If you’re ready for one of the more realistic paintball games on the market, load up the hopper on your weapon of choice, lower your mask, and take cover because “it’s on!”

“We appreciate the fact that the bar has been raised with extreme sports games, and that paintball enthusiasts demand an obsessive attention to detail. Our goal has been to over-deliver in a way that pleases both camps,” said Shawn Walker, NPPL President. “It’s been a long wait for next-gen paintball experience, but the work on NPPL Championship Paintball 2009 has paid off and the game is a huge step forward for the genre and the sport.”

NPPL Championship Paintball 2009 had in-depth design consultation by Team Dynasty and Bob Long. The game strives to make players feel like they are on the field – with motion-captured player movements such as slides, dives, snapping and leading-edge ballistics that affect where the paintballs go.

Ryan Greenspan of the world champion San Diego Dynasty paintball team said, “We’ve gotten to play the game quite a few times along the way, and it is definitely the best paintball game we’ve ever played. The graphics are amazing, it’s lots of fun, and super realistic. The beautiful thing is that people are going have an absolute blast playing it from the most hardcore paintball junkies to those who might never have even tried the sport. The breadth of its appeal is huge.”

The evolution in the series continues, with spectacular graphics and attention to detail. Another neat thing about Resident Evil 5 is that even after you ‘beat’ the game, there’s enjoyment to be had. If you’re a long time Resident Evil fan or you’ve never played any of the games in the series before, you’re in for a treat. Partner up and get ready to rock Resident Evil style.

Resident Evil the series is now over 10 years old. The franchise has gone through a lot of changes, but it’s gotten better instead of worse. Oh, the games have had their ups and downs, that’s for sure, but overall, the Resident Evil games keep getting better, even 13 years later.

It was Resident Evil 4 that really changed the course of the series, though. Resident Evil 5 expands on the action direction taken in that game. It also adds co-operative play, though, which adds a new element to the game.

Don’t worry, though, the thing that makes the whole series so great is still there – tension, and lots of it. It’s more of an action horror game, though. There are scores and scores of infected Africans and mutated monsters to battle in the game.

Sheva, your companion in the game, has pretty good AI (artificial intelligence), for the single player experience. It’s still better, though, to battle through the game with a buddy, tallying body counts like the dwarf and elf in Lord of the Rings.

Anyway, if you’ve played Resident Evil 5 or are a fan (or hater) of the entire Resident Evil series, we’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment below and let us know what you think. It only takes a moment. Smile.

Til next time, remember which character is carrying what BEFORE you get to the boss!

Killzone 2 for the Playstation 3 game console (see GAMESPOT Review or the Official Killzone website) is a game that is a worthy successor to the first Killzone. The graphics are intense and will amaze you – especially if you play on a large, high definition screen. The original Killzone came out in 1994. Not a lot of people gave much thought to a sequel, even when one was announced. Killzone 2 gets a lot of things right, though. From a good single player campaign to superb online multiplayer, Killzone 2 is a sleeper hit.

If you like FPS (first person shooters) with great visuals (read: exploding bodies), Killzone 2 is going to be your type of game. While there’s a decent selection of weapons, the enemies in the campaign game get kind of repetitive after a while.

The good news is that the multiplayer maps for online play are another area that Killzone 2 excels in.

On the bad side, there’s not really much to the story, especially if you’re not familiar with the first Killzone. When you’re playing other humans via multiplayer, though, the story doesn’t really matter as much. If it came down to it, I’d much rather have good gameplay over a good story.

Don’t let the lack of a storyline fool you, though. It’s easy to get caught up in the ‘world’ of Killzone 2 because it’s so beautifully put together. The game designers paid attention to the small visual details and it really shows in the finished product. If for nothing else than the visuals of the world in Killzone 2, you should check this game out.

If you’ve played Killzone 2 for the Playstation 3 (or the original Killzone for the PS2), leave a comment and let us know what you thought of the game.

Until next time, keep your eyes on the screen and your thumbs on the controller.

The House of the Dead: Overkill for the Nintendo Wii (see GAMESPOT Review or the IGN Review) is a game for those who like to kill zombies (or even zombie-like “mutants”.) Unlike the previous incarnation, House of the Dead: Overkill has a lot more atmosphere in the game, putting you into the story, into a dirty, grimy world that’s full of … you guessed it … nasty mutants who want to eat you.

The graphics in the game are some of the best currently available for the Nintendo Wii. There are some issues at some points in the game with the graphics, but overall, they’re going to pretty much amaze you.

The story behind the game is a bit zany and over the top, but so is the zombie killing action in this FPS (first person shooter.)

You don’t get to move a lot through the world, but that’s not the fun of this game. The fun comes in blasting mutants and finding power-ups so you can more effectively blast mutants.

The mutant enemies (even the bosses) aren’t much of a match, which makes this game kinda fun and light (for a gruesome mutant blasting game anyway), but there are ways to get to a ‘director’s cut’ of the game, with longer levels and slightly tougher enemies.

The soundtrack for the game is pretty good, with the music sticking in your head even after you turn off your Nintendo Wii. The voice acting isn’t too shabby either.

Overall, if you’re looking for an easy, laid back shooter for the Nintendo Wii with great graphics, The House of the Dead: Overkill should be on your hit list.

If you’ve played House of the Dead: Overkill, we’d love to hear from you. Leave a comment and let us know what you thought of the game.

Until next time … keep your eyes open for mutant clowns.

The gameplay is great, but things do get a little repititious with a lack of a wide array of enemies and levels. What is there, though, is great if you don’t expect too much.

One thing that Moon does well with is weapons – there are a lot of different weapon options available.

You play the game as Major Kane, who is called in to investigate (and get to the bottom of) a very strange hatch (Lost, anyone?) that has been found on the Moon. As you can imagine, when the hatch is opened, there’s not too much good going on deep in the Moon.

The controls are very intuitive, with the same set-up as most other first person shooters for the Nintendo DS. They’re simple controls, but sometimes that’s a good thing for a game – especially a shoot-em-up FPS like Moon.

If you like action and shooting, running and ducking, you’re going to get some enjoyment out of Moon. The action is constant, with enemies coming at you from everywhere, trying to make sure you don’t make it.

The inside of the hatch is very alien-like (as if we’d know what alien architecture on the moon is supposed to look like!) – but the levels do get a bit tedious and the same after a while.

The soundtrack and music for the game is good, though, letting you get into the mood of the Moon.

Unfortunately, there are NO multiplayer modes. It’s still a fun way to lose yourself for a little while.

If you’ve played Moon for the Nintendo DS, we’d love to know what you thought! Leave a comment below and let us know.

Until next time … be wary of opening hatches, especially on the Moon!
