Trivial Pursuit Lives On in Console Versions

Trivial Pursuit, the classic boardgame, lives on in a new version for the Playstation 3, Microsoft XBox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. (See GAMESPOT Review or the Official Hasbro page.)

Electronic Arts Inc. is celebrating the 25th year of Trivial Pursuit by launching it on all the consoles, online and via mobile devices. Started in 1982, Trivial Pursuit has become an American tradition all over the world. There are some who think this is a bad port of the game, but it depends on how much you like Trivial Pursuit. There are problems, as with a lot of games, but it’s playable, especially if you like trivia games. Oh, there could be multiplayer options and other things that take advantage of the technology available on modern consoles, but it’s still a good game.

Standard ‘classic’ mode is like the boardgame except for the end question – the category is chosen by the player, not their opponents. This kinda really changes the game.

The single player mode is ok, if you’re into playing Trivial Pursuit on your own. To me, it just doesn’t seem like there would be as much enjoyment with no one else around to witness your mastery of all things trivia related.

There’s another version that’s like a free-for-all mad dash for all the pie pieces. In this version, you can even steal the one pie piece for each color from other players, which really can make things interesting. If you’re getting bored with normal Trivial Pursuit, this is a good alternative.
