Watchmen: The End Is Nigh for the Playstation 3 and the PC (see GAMESPOT Review, the IGN Review or the Offical Game Site) is a decent ‘prequel’ game for the upcoming Watchmen movie. It’s a fun fighting game, but if you’re looking for a lot of depth, wait for the movie. The game is pretty decent at letting you interact in the world of The Watchmen, though. It’s a long way from the game based on ET the Movie, but it’s kinda almost sorta feels like it was made for the same reasons?
The video game certainly LOOKS a lot better than the ET game for the Atari did. The game play is a lot better than that game too – so maybe it feels like another “ET game” it really isn’t. I guess it depends on how much of the comic book and story you expect in the game – note: if you expect less, you won’t be disappointed.
The game is graphically beautiful, with full-on graphic fight scenes as you protect the city. Rorschach and Nite Owl are the only two playable characters in this game, which has a LOT of combat. The game is virtually all combat. Not that that’s a bad thing – but again, if you’re expecting storyline, wait for the movie or go reread the Watchmen graphic novel. Smile.
The various environments and levels in the game are very detailed, which helps bring you into the world of the Watchmen.
There is a two-player split screen mode in the game, but no online play. Overall, this video game may or may not be for you – depending on how well you like 3rd person shooters.
